Salekhard, especially in summer, can be reached only by air and water transport – there is no railway or highway connecting the capital of Yamal with “Mainland”. Trains run to the train station in Labytnangi, from where you can arrive to Salekhard using private or route taxi – it will take about half an hour. In winter, you can also come to by “winter road” – specially equipped seasonal road linking Salekhard and Nadym, to which the highway is paved.
Currently, active construction of highway Nadym-Salekhard is carried out, and, probably, Salekhard will cease to be a sort of inaccessible island in an ocean of endless tundra in a year and a half.
